I believe that would be a spruce top, Jens. She sure is pretty!

I have that same year (1987) D25-12 in natural finish. Yes- it's a spruce top. I paid a few hundred US $ more than the present bid in 2007, but the market is down since then (2007). That seems like a good price if you can get it for around what it is now. Shipping to Europe (plus customs charges) will definately add some costs to the final tab- so do keep that in mind.

Also, the seller will only ship to the lower 48 states, not internationally.

Therefore it might be coming to my home to keep my 6 string D25M company . . .

I agree, it is a real "looker". If you can see yourself playing a red acoustic, then you have my endorsement.

THAT is a nice guitar. I've already done my limit this year, which is one.

I got used to playing an orange electric, so a red acoustic is no big deal . . . would even fill in a gap in the color spectrum!

It is a great guitar, imo . . . I'm mostly a fingerstyle player, but am trying to learn some blues riffs & it is a lot of fun with that instrument. Might have to learn a couple Brian Setzer runs, too . . . I think it is a Federal requirement, when you purchase an orange Gretsch.

Only downside for me is that I own only a little 5-watt practice amp, with an 8-inch speaker. When I first played a 6120RHH, it was through a boutique amp I'd never heard of before (Bad Cat amp, I think the model was Black Cat?). Turned out to be a $3K amp, & the guitar's tone through that amp was absolutely jaw-dropping. I had actually stopped into that shop to try a Gibson, a Johnny A standard model . . . even through that pricey amp, the Gibson had a really lifeless sort of tone, but the Gretsch sounded really full, & broke up nicely when you played it a bit on the hard side.

When my skills improve, I'll want to get a better amp to match that cool guitar . . . 8)

Yeah, this one's gotten out of control. It's almost at $1,300 with nearly 24 hours still to go. I realize this is in pretty darn good shape & all that, but you could find one of these for half of what this one is going to sell for if you can put up with some minor bumps & bruises (no structural damage). I'm amazed to see this auction going so high... can't quite figure it out.

Weird, isn't it. And, there was that F-512 last month that went for 3K+... A weird, wacky world out there!

I'm tempted to get in on it myself.

I love the 25-12's. And I generally don't like 12's.
It's something about the look that I love.

Scratch:
"Pretty sure that's his D212 he's playing there..."

What's the difference between a D-212 and a D-25-12?

They look pretty much the same.

Hello again everybody!

The weirdness of the price has to have something to do with that extremely beautiful and soulful deep oriental red colour!!!

Just got an email from the seller that gave me an ok for shipping to Sweden,
so we´ll see....

Jens
