Greeting from Dune (Iraq). I know the F30's are smaller, does anyone know the exact measurements for these babes? Anyway what are 000 and OM sizes? I'm thinking I would like a box smaller than the jumbos that I have for playing sitting down and would like some comments as to the different models and their qualities.
I tried to send a couple of pics from here, but am so digitally challanged that there was a breakdown. How do you post pics from a digital camera? Thanks Robin

Hi, Robin. Welcome, and thanks for serving in Iraq.

Hans Moust, who is around here a lot, is an expert on Guild specifics (and there are lots of others, too) so you'll probably have a ton of info soon.

For posting photos, open an account on one of the web photo sites (I use photobucket), upload to there, and link back to your posts. Works great.

Regards,
Dave

Robin,

Here's a website to check out;
http://westerlyguildguitars.com/index.htm
All the specs for all the guitars you need should be there.

I really like my Masterbilt 000 and I recommend the line highly.

Cheers,
Joe

Joe, Thanks for that Westerly RI Guild link. I looked through several models but some of the specs are incomplete for some models - for example, the body depth is blank for some models, including the F30. Also, here and there some specs are incorrect - the width of the A25 is given as 15", but I have one and it ~14" - so the specs listed there are good general guidelines but not gospel.

Robin - re: OM and 000 sizes, *In general*, across various makers, 000/OM guitars are about 15" to 15-1/4" wide across the bottom bout, and about 1/2" shallower than dreadnoughts; 00 guitars are generally another 1/2" smaller, and the bodies get slightly shorter too with each downsize. Curvature, waist measurements, etc vary a bit among makers, but the widths are pretty similar.

I have handled a couple vintage ('70s) F20s and F30s, and remember thinking that they looked deeper-bodied than I expected - maybe they were similar to the "deep-body concert size" guitars you occasionally see. But I don't think this (deeper bodies) applies to the current F30 and GAD30 models - the ones I've seen look very similar in depth to the Martin 000 and Epiphone E size.

welcome and thanks for being there but don't let them kill you.
maybe you should check the newer (still discontinued) co/cv models.
sorry, don't know the specs but a cv felt more handy than a f-30.

The best place to start is to get The Guild Guitar Book by Hans Moust- they have the dimensions for the f-30 and f-20. They were more similar to the martin ooo in the 60's then the shape of the body increased in the 70's similar to a mini jumbo. I have a 70's f-30 and it sounds great! different than the 60's ones. The 70's are louder, brighter, and have more projection IMO the 60's ones have a sweet folk blues sound.

and yes as it has been said before the more recent models of the f-30 from the 1990's onward have returned to the 60's size

One day when I have time I will post pics.

good luck

Well thanks for all the info guys, wow. Hey, Dave, I'm a contractor over here and leave the protection end of it to the USMC, who do an outstandingly fine job. So I'm not really in harms way.
Fungus that was a great look at specs, it seems like an F30R would be good if I can find one.
I'll try photobucket and post some Iraqi landscape (more like mooscape, we're in a heavy sandstorm as I write this).

Hello acousticphd,

After looking at Guild specs. for many years I know that they can vary quite a bit from one period to the next, so it's not really possible to give a set of measurements for a specific model.
However, the A-25 was only made for a fairly short period so there should not be that much variation. The body width of an A-25 should be 15". If you say that your A-25 has a 14" body width I would suggest to measure it again. If it is indeed 14" you have something really special!

Sincerely,

Hans Moust
