    Switching to Coated Strings

My 2 favorite coated string choicer are #1- Martin Lifespan. #2- D'Addario XS. These cost more but sound a bit better to me. Phosphor Bronze on both.

    D-55 experience

I owned a 2005 Tacoma built D-55 for several years. It was a great sounding guitar. Full and balanced. When I got it, it had an under the saddle pickup in it. I took the pickup out and replaced the saddle with a compensated bone saddle. I can't tell you how much that change made in the guitar...

    Guild Owned by Yamaha?

I currently own a Yamaha LL-16D and a Guild 8 string baritone. Both are quality instruments. I have been a Yamaha fan for over 50 years. They will be good for the Guild brand.

What acoustic are you playing today?

Today I used my Guild 8 string Baritone for my show at an assisted living home. I ran it through a DI/per amp box into my Bose S1 Pro speaker. The guitar sounded awesome. As I have said before, I use medium gauge strings and tune D to D with the baritone. I get a lot of compliments when I use...

    8 String Baritone thoughts

I have had my 8 string baritone for over 2 years now. I had to send two of them back under warranty for bridge problems. All 3 had the bass bridge pin break when I first removed it. This one is a good one, finally. Tuning B to B sounds a bit muddy to me, so I experimented with different...

Solo Shows With My Guild 8 String Baritone

I had an Alvarez 6 string baritone before the Guild 8 string came out. I kept that baritone in B to B tuning. The tone was muddy and the strings were very heavy. [thick] I sold it to a friend that tuned 1/2 step up to C flat. That helped the tone but I told him that the higher tension may not be...

Solo Shows With My Guild 8 String Baritone

I contacted Guild and told them my wishes for tuning and string gauges. I gave them 2 different gauges and tunings and they replied that I was fine with both choices. The medium gauge strings feel soft and low tension on the baritone. The baritone comes with strings that are .014 to .072 at B...

Solo Shows With My Guild 8 String Baritone

After doing these shows for almost 4 years, I have found that a mix of fast and slow songs is good. Also be sure to have at least half of the set list be songs that the people will know and can sing-along. Some of my songs are: Paradise, Red River Valley, Mr. BoJangles, Hello Marylou, When Will...

Solo Shows With My Guild 8 String Baritone

After I retired, I wanted to bring my music to some of the Assisted Living Homes in my area. I started doling this just before Covid hit. Now that we are back to what ever normal is, I'm taking my music to over 20 assisted living homes. I rotate my guitars as I do my shows. Today was my day...

I have 3 Silver Creek hard Cases. They are all great fitting and well made cases.

Not Much Interest Here, In A Guild 8 String Baritone.

I sold my Alvarez 6 string to help fund the Guild 8 string. I'm very happy with my decission. For me, the 8 string tames the muddiness that the y string baritone has.

Not Much Interest Here, In A Guild 8 String Baritone.

I agree that an all solid wood guitar is always my first choice. However, Guild has been producing arched back/ laminated guitars for many years. They do it right.

Not Much Interest Here, In A Guild 8 String Baritone.

All 3 of my Guild Jumbo Baritone 8 string guitars had arched backs. The first one was from 2021 or 2022. The last one I assume is from 2023.

Not Much Interest Here, In A Guild 8 String Baritone.

Yes, The Guild Baritone has an arched back but it is a Jumbo body. I play with a strap when sitting, so the size doesn't make a difference for me. The larger body of the Jumbo Baritone adds to the sound of the guitar.

Not Much Interest Here, In A Guild 8 String Baritone.

As some of you know, I had to send back 2 of these baritone guitars to Guild due to bridge problems. So far, this one has had no issues. Tuning the baritone D to D has worked out very well. If I could buy heavy gauge Treated strings, I would drop it down to C# to C# and be very happy. B to B...

Not Much Interest Here, In A Guild 8 String Baritone.

I love the tone from my Guild 8 string baritone. It surprises me that I don't see more members here playing one of these guitars. It is the lack of interest in baritone guitars in general? I have settled in on tuning mine D to D and using medium gauge strings for now. This combination gives me...

    Tried Going Down To 11's

I have been experimenting with string gauges for the past year or so. Right now, I have an OM size guitar tuned D to D with light gauge strings on it. I like the results so far. My hands are getting arthritic and finding ways to play in less finger pain is a high priority now. I had to quit...

Lack of Guilds in the wild?

I can't remember the last time that I saw a new American built Guild at a guitar shop. It would have to be back in the late 70's when I purchased my D-212.

    Wrong Yet Again

As I understand it, the area that is cut out doesn't add very much to the sound of the guitar. That is why it is possible to cut it out and still have a good tone. I went many years not liking the look of a cut out but it has grown on me over the past few years and I finally got one. I don't...
