We live in town and there is trash pickup but sometimes it's easier to go to the dump ourselves. We had curbside recycling but the private company doing so discontinued the service because their drivers had difficulty with large trucks and narrow streets with on street parking. I understand that to mean they were losing money because of insurance claims. We now haul our recyclables to the recyclable bin at the dump even though we know doing so is not profitable for anyone these days and there is no guarantee that they won't end up in some out of sight portion of the dump or trucked to another dump instead of being recycled.
I also go to the dump here a few times a year, to get rid of stuff the trash co wont take. It's a giant landfill area, west of town. It's like $12 for a dump load, so long as the weight is under a certain limit. They weigh you in on way in and out. It's old school but very well organized, and they are constantly moving the dump area. covering it with dirt, rinse repeat, it just seems to go on and on.

I have curbside pickup, but they limit it to 6 bags of trash, so I also use the local dump. Mainly for those multiple 55 gallon bags full of seasonal yard debris I fill up when mowing, raking, weed whacking, or taking care of a tree branch that broke off in the recent storm and needs to be dealt with. With the trash service I pay for curbside is about $300 a year. Included is a punch card with 52 punchouts, so I can bring a load a week, or the other way to look at it, I have 52 loads of crap I can bring to the dump throughout the year. I love the dump!

Do you also have landfill-gas collecting pipes that lead to a filtering unit - and from there to combusting engine turning generator?

Just to think of all the disgusting things we were doing only 50 years ago. Now the old "Dump-It-Place" has turned into modern assorting centre that produces new material of most of the stuff - some part will be burnt for getting energy - and only minimal amount remains as actual "litter".
The county in Sweden where we lived did this and powered the entire city bus system with the biofuel! 🚎

Yes, it's a very common thing here. Biogas contains the highest amount of Swedish origin raw products within our fuel industry.

Other biofuels like HVO, FAME and ethanol vary on percentage for Swedish raw products. We use these mainly to mix out our fossil fuels so the end result is a low emission.

I like to take about 3 quick steps and then slide sideways across the floor. Don't try it in slipper socks, though. They have too much traction and you'll skip like a stone across a pond.

I guess some kids never grow up.

Do you do that in your underwear while listening to "Old Time Rock-n-Roll"?
Not generally, but thanks for the suggestion. And, I did see that movie, just didn't remember which song was played.

But, I was sliding across floors long before Ferris. At about 10 or 12 I once talcum powdered the floor for better slide potential. I cleaned it up but getting powder out of the cracks between the boards of a hardwood floor was tough.
