Could that really be done? I ask because one of my bosses was in the Marines in Vietnam. He would cook beef stew by putting a pot in the engine of their truck.
I dunno about cooking, but you could heat up rations that way.
Sometimes left a bit of a gas or oil smell, though. I'd rather eat them cold.

I used to work with someone who had a cookbook of recipes that could be prepared on her car's exhaust manifold. I recall her wrapping chicken & sliced veggies in aluminum foil, prior to a long-ish drive, with the expectation that it would be ready to eat when she arrived at her destination.

Good enough, apparently. She would occasionally fix a recipe from that book, partly to have a hot lunch at a jobsite, as well as to amuse her co-workers.
