One of my kid's grade-school teachers has a five year old daughter who desperately wanted a guitar so they bought this on Facebook for $40, then posted to a local mom's group that it had a broken string and could anyone help. My wife volunteered me because she knew I wouldn't be able to resist. I took it, cleaned it up, tightened the tuners (every single one was loose), polished the frets, fixed the action, put on some extra-light nan-web strings, and now it plays like buttah, though it looks like the last person to put strings on it used a hammer to get the pins in after not understanding how they worked.

I threw in an extra pack of strings, an extra Snark tuner, a pile of picks, and told the parents to have her thank me when she gets her first Grammy.

Nothing gets me going like encouraging an enthusiastic kid. I was, however, a bit sad that it wasn't the pink sparkle model.

I thought about it, but it would just take away from the Guild pile.

Though I insisted on no payment, they brought a gift bag and they paid me in whoopie pies!

For those of you not from the New England or Pensilvania Dutch areas, these are whoopie pies:

They are the most decadent calorie-rich bad-for-you treat on Earth and I LOVE THEM! The best way to describe the center filling is something like egg whites, shortening and confectioner's sugar. Each one is probably 800 calories. Maybe 1000. I'm going to go eat one right now.

Also I brought out the Holoflake Bluesbird to show her and she was properly impressed. :)

And to use one of the - if not - most copied phrases of the Harry Potter Series and I will vary one word, "GAD you're a Wizard."
May something good be left on your doorstep!!

Adequate payment, for sure!!! YUM! It's great to help people out when they're so lost with something unknown to them. Good for you. Funny thing is I looked at the Sparkle and to me it's more lavender or purple more than pink but that's just a color perception thing. If it's more playable she's more likely to stick with it!! Excited kids are fun!! (y)

Good for you Gary! Watching the John Prine Tribute last night (excellent BTW), I was oddly taken by the pink Gibson that Kacey Musgraves was playing, and normally something like that would never appeal to me. Do real men wear pink?

After doing some research, they seem to be near impossible to find, so I imagine there's not many of them out there.

Yeah, I have no problem with pink, but then remember that I loved the '80s!

Great story, GAD, nice work!

The brand of that guitar made me laugh out loud!'

Definition of "Debutante" - an upper-class young woman making her first appearance in fashionable society. No mention of a pink guitar!
