Van The Man, apparently around the time of the 'Moondance' sessions.
Already ordered the 5 disc reissue, one of my favorite albums.

Wilfred, I found another nice one of Van Morrison from 1970 here .
Looks like a ca. 1968-1970 "Bluegrass Special D-50".

Utah was an early inspiration when I bought my first guitar 43 years ago.
I knew (still do) all of his songs and even helped him out with the opening line to Queen of the Rails at a small concert years ago when he just couldn't remember it. He had told the set up story and just couldn't get the song started.
He pulled me aside after the concert and said "thanks pardner, I guess the years are catching up with me."

He was the real deal,
Joe

*I also learned to make a G chord using 2-3-4 instead of 1-2-3 by listening to him play Starlight on the Rails.

Did you all miss this one? I have the album at home. Its an 80s compilation and the recordings are all older than the photo.

@David: That's a great picture, yes! It might have been posted in a different thread somewhere, but definitely needs to be here. The black and white version is in Hans' book in the Aristocrat M-75 section on page 56.

I am not sure if that is a F-212 or F-312 which Keith Richards "plays" here in the studio. (Brian Jones to the right)
It's a very early model, maybe 1964 (guessing from the pickguard shape towards the bridge). The rosette is hard to compare to other pictures.
Unfortunately I found no other pictures showing the headstock clearly.
The picture seems to be from the second half of the 60ies maybe. Maybe Hans knows what guitar that is.

Leslie Spann, Jr. (May 23, 1932 - January 24, 1989) with John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie (October 21, 1917 – January 6, 1993) on the trumpet:
