I have installed an add-on that allows you to ignore threads and even forums. Here's how:
For a thread, in the main thread view within a forum there is now an "ignore" link. Click it and that thread will be ignored:
For entire forums, you need to go into that forum and there is an option in the headers.
Note that you will have to confirm this action on the next page. The "reason" for ignoring is optional.
If you've ignored a forum or thread and want to un-ignore them, then click on your username in the header of any page and click on "ignoring":
When you click on that you'll get a summary of what you're ignoring:
Click on "Forums" or "Threads" and you'll get details.
You can "unignore all" by clicking the button on the top right, or you can click the trash-can icons to the right of each thread.
That's it!
