I was flipping through the '15 VGGuide and noticed a curious thing. The X-500 is valued slightly above the X-700. I would have thought that the X-700, with it's limited production run and carved solid, rather than laminated, top, would be higher.

Since they usually base the values on recent sales, it sounds like somebody got a deal on an X-700.

Oh bother, I just noticed that I mistyped the title. Should be, obviously, X-500 vs. X-700!

Ah, if only we could edit our thread titles.

Very interesting, a very legitimate question. Could it be the 24,75" scale of the X-700 that scares away those on the lookout for a cheaper L5? Like it or not, Gibson still sets the standards.

I've never looked at the VGGuide before so I don't really know but your assertion that someone got a deal on an X-700 could be valid. I don't know how many of those were made but I would think quite a few less than the X-500. I also wonder it the AP X-500 prices got in there and weren't really factored as different than say a 1990 X-500 and pushed the X-500 price up. I've seen a few Westerly X-150Ds for sale for ridiculous prices and I wondered it the sellers were looking at asking prices for GSR X-150D and hoping or mistakenly thinking that $2500 was a reasonable price for a 1998 X-150D.
