Came back to this awesome archive video today of Sonny Greenwich playing his early Franz equipped X-150 with the Guild Masteramp on Canadian TV. Couldn’t resist sharing it again - such a cool document:
Yes!Reminds me of Grant Green,
Really! That would be cool.Cool vid! Thanks. I believe there is a brief cut to Ed Bickert listening in the audience around 2:20 too! (I think it is him…)

This is Greenwich quoted in general on amp preferences in the book: “it has to be a cheaper amplifier that doesn’t give you very much… I have to force the sound out of it, and that’s how I get the tone, by forcing it. That’s another reason I seldom play chords. These amps aren’t meant for chords. When I play chords, I just get a blare”.I am interested in whatever he said about the amp and guitar combo. The amp is pre-1958 for sure.
Where can I find a copy of "The Third Season"? Not on Amazon or Reverb.Glad you liked it! There is a good book about Sonny Greenwich called ‘Stars and Strings’ - it’s a pretty interesting story. He used that guitar and amp from the 1950s to the late 1970s irrc - only ever played single note lines because he didn’t like the way chords sounded with the amp turned all the way up. I’d recommend the Blue Note album he did with Hank Mobley called ‘The Third Season’ -there’s a great band on that and a couple of really killer tunes.
Try Alibris, ABE, or Biblio websites (or even Ebay).Where can I find a copy of "The Third Season"? Not on Amazon or Reverb.
No luck at any of those sites. Plenty on Ebay, but not that album.Try Alibris, ABE, or Biblio websites (or even Ebay).
You could try Discogs Rich, they usually have most things available on thereNo luck at any of those sites. Plenty on Ebay, but not that album.
Sorry Rich; I got the book about Greenwich mixed up with the album by Greenwich (I didn't read Oleo's post carefully enough). Sorry for the wild goose chase. No luck at any of those sites. Plenty on Ebay, but not that album.
No worries. I did find the book and promptly ordered it from Amazon. There are many CDs and some LPs for sale on Ebay, but not that specific album, for some reason. Maybe it's the most popular one?Sorry Rich; I got the book about Greenwich mixed up with the album by Greenwich (I didn't read Oleo's post carefully enough). Sorry for the wild goose chase.
