Black and red opaque are my least favorites.
I have sworn off opaque finishes.
I want to see the wood grain!!
So bursts, natural, and walnut are good.

I really wish they would do an NS M-85 with a neck position Bisonic and preferably any finish BUT black. I would 100% for sure buy one.

Voila:

Voila:

Not Newark Street (so vintage priced and less compatible with value changing mods).

The seller chronicled some of the search for that instrument here.

I think what @mellowgerman wanted was more like a NS version of

1970aM-85Hollow.jpg

(which belongs to @The Guilds of Grot and I have played :) )

Yes indeed, I want a hollow or semi-hollow M85 with a Bisonic in the neck position (no bridge pickup required). I already have a 1976 Hagstrom Swede bass that I'm quite fond of, which is similar to the solid-body M85 in many ways.

Thanks, mellow. I appreciate the response. Sorting this mess has always been on the list to do. The guitar pickup sounds bad, the second three way switch is complicated beyond belief. I just set it to pure bisonic and that's it. Ideally I'd find a piece of wood or pick guard material or something to cover the hole the guitar pickup would leave. Then the tone suck circuit... it's a circus. Some day. After all that I might likely just play the neck pickup anyway.

Might as well go full Alembic series!
