As always on LTG, it's interesting to observe how expansive a thread becomes after the original question.

My answer remains the same....Doc Watson....my guitar hero (singular), my inspiration.

Saturday cheers,
Joe

Joe

I listed 9 just to be rebellious, and omitted blues players so as to not meet expectations.

The original question by the author was a max of 3. I don't mind if someone listed more than 3. But why so many folks saying "just pick one"?, after several people listed their 3 choices.

At this point I am surprised that there is no mention of Rick Danko, Ray Davies (kinks), Elvin Bishop, Robbie Robertson, David Crosby, Judy Collins, Pete Seeger, Alan Wilson (Canned Heat), Joe Perry (Aerosmyth), Ron Wood, Keith Richards (Stones), Lou Reed, Ian Hunter, Joan Baez, Melanie, Bob Dylan, John Lennon, etc. These folks were icons to an entire generation.

Maybe musicians are a bit more selective than the average guy that goes out and buys a CD.

Historian (not),

Under the general heading of NBD, the original question is in the subject line and asks, "Who is your guitar hero?"
The author then set the max at 3 in the text of the post.

Did I say NBD?

 I knew I could count on you all to break the rules! I will now be forced to ban you all from LTG

I will also second the mention of Ray and Dave Davies. Not often mentioned in these types of lists but the Kinks' music has proved to be quite influential.

Jimmy Page did NOT play the solo in "You Really Got Me".

Better talk to his brother Dave Davies, who was the lead player... :)

Mark Knopfler (I started playing Guitar when getting a Dire Straits fan in the 80ies)

Tommy Emmanuel, Phil Keaggy (I've seen both in concert, small venues, 1st and 2nd row - wow!)

Don McLean
James Taylor

And there are much more like EC, Joan Baez, …

Current hero is Rich Robinson since I play alot in open G. Here he is working a Guild 12 solo with brother Chris on some killer vocals. This song, Wiser Time, fingerpicks great.

That Guild 12er is really sweet sounding. 8) Excuse my ignorance but can someone identify the model?

That's an F-512; appears to be a Tacoma crafted model. Darn nice post retropicker. Welcome aboard...

Under the heading of "Guitar Hero's come in All Styles and Genders" I pick this lady. She's my guitar hero. Never a slave to convention and, IMHO, the best singer/songwriter of her generation, my generation, or any other. This is one of my all time fave songs and in the vid you'll see at least TWO different guitars being played (it's a video, right?) but she's as adept at acoustics as she is with a solid body electric or archtop.

The guy who isn't Coastie is John Fahey:

Said to have broken his pre-war Gibson-built, Montgomery Wards-badged Recording King over a lover's head in a bout of ... uh ... exuberance. Before repairs:
