I have a `54 sunburst F-40. It has the New York 3, New York label. Great guitar and in overall very good original condition.

I'm a bit confused -- the serial number "76271" is stamped on the back of the headstock and also handwritten on the label inside the guitar. The label (which looks much older than the labels on my two 1978 Guilds) also says it is a "MK II". I'd be happy to send you closeup photos if you'd like!
Regards,

Nels

Hello Nels,

Sure, go ahead and send some photos and I will explain it to you.
I assume your MK-II has the label that says ' Made in USA' at the bottom ........ yes?

If that's the case can you tell me if there's also an ink-stamped number somewhere on the label? Usually it's located somewhere at the bottom of the label, near where it says 'Made in USA'. If so, can you tell me what the number is?

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Funny, I actually looked at the book and missed the "Made in USA." It wouldn't say Westerly. Oops.

I've got #1014. It's the X-330 in Hans' book. It's the first Guild I bought.

Hello Brown-Recluse,

That's clearly one of the oldest on this forum. I have earlier serial numbers in my database but the owners of these guitars are not necessarely members here.

By the way, did you ever find a pickguard and truss rod cover for your guitar?
If so, I would love to see a photo of what the instrument looks like now.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust
