Gee, Mello, you've fixed the two main things that ailed that bass: pickups and bridge!

I've frequently toyed with getting one of those and similarly modding it, since really nice, reasonably-priced JS-IIs are pretty hard to find.

Yeah, the mudbucker has it's charm but I really only find them useful for certain studio applications, where it can be properly tamed for the mix. As for the original 2-post bridge, it's just gotta go. No excuses!

That said, the necks on these early 60s specimens are awesome. Clearly catering to the upright bassist crowd. Super chunky profile and a wide nut.

Mello, I would be interested in hearing some sound Clips of the bass with the new pick ups. EB basses are known to be muddy and I’m wondering if the pick ups clear it up.

I will shoot for uploading a demo!
The muddiness of the Gibson EB-0/1/2/3 was due to the massively overwound neck position humbucker that they came stock with -- essentially two p-90 coils with big magnets, turned on their sides with a single row of 4 poles poking up in between them.

The construction of the bass itself, on the other hand, has wonderful potential and with the right pickups (like these Bardens) yields a crystal clear, full tone. The filter preamp makes it a very Alembic-y sound.
