What's the difference or how much difference from a SF 1 to a IV (Both DC).

Hello all!

I am new to the sight and about 3 weeks into my first Guild (Starfire II ST). Anyway I am always looking and some of the pricing on these other Guilds is just to good not to take advantage of!

Big question... is the IV really that much better (In terms of playability) than its counter part in the 1 series? Those green ones really got my eye.

Welcome to LTG and congrats on your first Guild! I think the Korean made Guilds are better quality than the Indonesian made guitars. Good luck with your Guild quest! They are addicting. :)

I think it depends a bit on your experience level. To a new player they might not notice the differences, but to an experienced player the Korean NS Guilds are better than the Indonesian and Chinese models.

If you take them apart then the differences become more obvious.

The SFI guitars are pretty great for the money. The Korean models are just better.

Here's GAD's review of a Starfire I. It's a single cut, but much of it would also apply to the DC versions

Yes I read through that... Funny how quickly you learn about this guy (GAD) when you start digging in a little. Great reviews...

I have a chance to get a SF I DC, SF IV DC or possibly even a VI for some crazy pricing. But no matter how you cut it they still cost money.
really all comes down to how do those frets feel? How is the guitar balanced? Looks are secondary.

One thing I noticed between the SF1 DC models is they are lighter in weight than vintage Guilds. There are differences in body depth etc. So a direct comparison is different. However a early 1970's SF4 with block inlay neck frets is the heaviest SF I have ever held. The NS SF1 DC is a modest weight.
