Howdy everyone, I was wondering what strings you use on your F30 in rosewood. I play classic country, mixed with alittle bluegrass. Trying to find something to give this little acoustic more bass. I have John Pearse PB lights on it right now, had Martin SP PB medium/lights on it for awhile. I know thats its never going to give me alot of bass like a dread, but hoping for something better.

I might just have to admit to myself that this little F30 is better for finger picking than struming and I,m just a strumer.

Might have to trade it off for a dread or jumbo if I cant get the tone I like. I did,nt get a chance to play it before I purchased it. Chances you take when you purchase something on line.

Thanks in advance for your advice

Chicago of course
I have to agree with you that the F30 would be for me exclusively suited to fingerpicking. The only one I've had a chance to play was a Tacoma-built NOS at the Chicago Music Exchange. I thought it was definitely a "quiet" guitar. Sweet tone, but quiet. I play with a pick more than fingerstyle, so it just wasn't for me. You might want to be on the lookout for a GF25 or GF30. Smaller body, arched back, lots of volume for the size. I want one, and I'm kicking myself for not taking up the offer of a very generous fellow LTGer.

Thanks for the post chicagowineguy. This F30 is not a quiet one. It has good volume for a small body, just does not have the bottom end that I like. It has the factory electronics (Westerly 1998) and I can get bass that way, but I play alot without plugging in. I used to have a nice D25CH that I let slip thru my hands. Wish I had it back. I,ll keep trying some different strings, but I am going to keep my eyes open for another dread or jumbo.

Take it easy and keep on picking

There is nothing like a Dred to bring out the bass in a guitar.
I sold a JF55 to get a D55.
The D55 has the bass that I was looking for and was not getting out of the JF%%.
I wish that I could have afforded to keep both, as the JF55 was a sweet sounding, well balanced guitar but I wanted a little more bass and volume than I was getting out of it.
The D55 has scalloped bracing which must help with the bass and volume.

I would still like to play a D50 but it's probably a good thing that there are not any of them close to home.
I can't afford another Guild right now.

I've got Martin Phosphor Bronze Lights on my F30R. Sounds awesome to me as a strummer, but I only have 1 eardrum .

I'm also really liking the K&K Pure Western Mini that I've got installed in it.

I use Elixir Nano 12's on my F30R. I can hit it pretty hard and it holds its own with the Martin HD-28's and Taylor dreads in jams. It has plenty of bass. I also have the pw mini installed and the sound plugged in is pretty incredible.

Victoria ha Bill? Man I've passed by your hometown a many a time on my way to Rockport and Aransas to do a bit of bird hunting. Many years ago.........8th and 9th grade, I was sweathearts and am still friends with a beautiful lady that for many years was a successful investment banker in Victoria. She and her husband, Allan DeKoch have since moved to Kingsville. Alan worked for one of the oil companies there and now owns a garage door business in Kingsville.

I like the JP's myself, but you might try some DiAddario's and see if they suit you.
