Hi, I have a Guild Pilot 4-String Bass which i understand was made c1984 but i don't know what model it is. Can anyone tell how i can find out what model it is?

I've searched the web but can't work out the difference between SB600, 602, 603 etc models.

Any help much appreciated.

Welcome spacefunk! Does it look anything like mine (both SB602s)?

Pictures would help a lot if you have some; here's a primer.

Thanks twocorgis. The pickup configuration and volume and tone knobs are the same but mine has a more rounded headstock.

The SB-602 came with different headstocks. Here is Grot's 1985 SB-602: http://www.guildsofgrot.com/images/full ... SB-602.JPG
Have a read here: http://www.letstalkguild.com/phpBB2/vie ... 17&t=18782
Ralf

Thanks for the info.

My Pilot has the following:

Body color Yellow (Mustard?)
Black hardware
EMG Pickups
Grover Tuners
Kahler Bridge
No Pickguard
Rounded Headstock
Rosewood fingerboard
Dot Inlays

I'll try and post a photo and thanks to everyone for the help.

The serial number and the dating guide linked to here might also be helpful since not all models were in production simultaneously. Easy answer is to post pics and what for the resident Pilot expert to chime in. Kurt?

Thanks for that it's much appreciated.

According to the Guild dating site my Pilot is 1984. What confuses me is that it has the same numbers on the site for three models: SB600, SB602 & SB603 so i presume it's one of these three.

I would think that is a poplar bodied SB-602.

Just in case anybody's interested, in addition to the thread that Ralf linked to, here is some more Pilot bass info.

SB-600s.jpg

The bass on the left is a SB-600. It has passive DiMarzio pick-ups in it. (My gigging bass)

The bass in the center is a rare SB-601. It only has the one EMG "P" pick-up in it.

The Bass on the right is a SB-602 with active EMG's and the somewhat rare Kahler tremolo.

Rumor has it that there is a SB-603 with three pick-ups, (2-"J" & 1-"P"?) but I have never seen one. Hans probably has a photo of one though. Maybe we'll find out in "Volume II".

The SB-604 has the off-set "Metal" headstock. (I know where a matching "Blueburst" one is but they want too much money for it! )

The SB-605 is a 5-string.

Excellent thanks!

An SB-602 it is then! Much appreciated.

I live in London, England and bought this recently and was amazed at how good it is. Lovely neck. I have a few 1970s and 80s basses but didn't have a Guild, so decided to put that right. Compared to the cost of other makes of U.S. basses (especially on this side of the pond!) this was a steal. Great value and well pleased.
