What is your favorite acoustic?

My '97 DV-6. Or '96 D-25. (not to be confused w/my current '96 D-25!)
Although the best sounding is my old Yamaha. My favorite to play, which also yields outstanding tone is an Eastman.

Favorite that I've owned is my D-140. Favorite that I've played is probably a D-20, but I haven't played (or owned) nearly enough different ones!

My consolation prize might go do a D28 Custom Martin w/Adirondack I should have bought several years back. It was one of those that really wowed me. I passed on that one over a $200 discrepancy with the seller. One of my greatest guitar regrets.

All I was entertaining was the guitar(s) that really made you feel if that was the one or your favorite or past fav.
It was just a thread to start some conversation. I'm very pleased with my D140 so much so I was trying to see if others
had the same feelings about a guitar(s). Certainly didn't mean to ruffle any feathers.

It’s not your fault. It’s a good thread. For me, my guitar journey is mostly regret of the really good ones I sold. Martins, Gibson, Taylor’s, Guilds. Wished I’d kept them all. But I was unsettled for a very long time in life. I wish it was only guitars that suffered the collateral damage.

A good thread indeed. But also as subjective as it gets. My ultimate guitar certainly might not melt the butter of another player. We all have different tastes, a different touch, a different ear. We love our choices because they speak to us, not to everybody.

Personally, I'm learning something about Lowden guitars. I've never played one.

Their take on a J-45...

Had I been able to bond with its neck, my former Collings D2H may well have been the best sounding guitar I ever owned.

The H&D you brought to Arlington was a dread, wasn't it Bill? I've got a D2HA.....and love it. Strangely, the feel of the D1 and D2 Collings reminds me of the neck on my DV72. See, there ya go.....different folks, different strokes.

"Slimish" 1 3/4" width neck, sorta has the feel of the New Hartford D-55 builds, a hair fatter. Its a slope-should dread.

My Collings' neck had a strange shape to it, thought I would grow into it but just could not. I tried one other, guy seated
next to me at one Joe Val Festival, his neck was really nice, so there is a Collings out there for me, but the lady I had wasn't it!

Yes, a very enjoyable thread. It’s always interesting to see what others are drawn to, especially instruments we may never have had the good fortune to try out in person. If there’s one thing I’ve learned over these way-too-many years, it’s to keep an open mind about makers, eras, etc. You truly never know where or when a stellar guitar might land in your lap.

You can order them with varying neck shapes now Bill. I played an H&D of yours in Arlington, and liked it. But I was thinking it had been a dread.

Top of the heap for nine months now is my Santa Cruz D P/W mahogany.

Next is my 70 D 35, a guitar I like better now than nine or ten years ago. Value around $1400 vs. my D P/W's $5k. I'm hoping the Santa Cruz grows on me more too, but it is already in the stratosphere.

Two other keepers are my Texan for the Gibson vibe, and my Martin D 35 Custom for when only rosewood will do.

This is pretty much it for me until my hands give up, at witch time I sell all and look for a twenties 0 or 00 Martin. If they can't be had, I'll call Santa Cruz and ask them witch guitar I can put tens on.

Hard choice. From a sound perspective my GV70 has the nicest all around sound to my ears., though it’s physically a little big. From a playing perspective and my particular preference for a smaller/ thinner body and wide nut it’s the Orpheum OM RW. If I could only have one that is the best fit for me. Or maybe it would be the F30 CE Cocobolo. Hell, I don’t know… I love all my kids.

Yeah, I liked my D/PW, though I was kind of afraid I'd break the thing.....so light and fragile. In the end, a fella wanted her more than I did. Nice guitars though.

Exactly West. So dang light and no truss rod. And at the time I played the BR exclusively, it was way better fingerpicking. Still, would like that one back. Which is why I am never selling the 2 I have now. I hope to buy another Guild acoustic in a few years, once my youngest takes the F30r. Probably a 12 string.
