Hi Everybody,

I placed this link in my newbie intro, but since it is a different topic, I thought I would place it in its own thread. I am looking for a entry level Guild dreadnaught and have pretty much settled on a D25M/NT. I found this on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 500wt_1182. The pictures could be closer and the seller swears that the back and sides have no dings or cracks..."practically new" in his own words. I am tempted to bid even though I am hesitant to buy a guitar I have not played. What do you all think is a fair price for this. I do realize it is a bidding forum and competition/GAS may set in, but I do not want to get carried away.

thanks in advance for your experienced advice,
Ridgemont

Ridgemont,
From the pics, it seems a very nice D25 specimen. Still has a few days to go and I'm just guessing, but somewhere between 500 and 650 seems reasonable for that Guild (assuming no cracks). Most D25s have some dings as they tend to get played a lot. Not a big deal... Great gigging guitars...

I would ask for:
1. action at 12th fret
2. amount of saddle showing above the bridge
3. condition of the frets
At that age it could need a neck reset or a fret job.....

A similar one in decent shape just sold for $350 in Portland OR, and I see another for $300 if it hasn't sold...

Ridge,
I don't see the "M" in the picture/description. I just see D25-NT.
Did I miss something? :?:

Hi Killdeer43,

No you didn't miss anything. The one on ebay was the D25NT (NT for natural color spruce top right?). Am I correct in saying that the D25M is the mahogany top version? If I am, then I am looking for either. I really like the way the all mahogany one sounds, but you can't go wrong with spruce/hog either. The way I see it, I am so taken by Guild that I will eventually have both...and many many more.

Heh heh, been there done that Ridgemont... I'm a little more selective nowadays. The D25M with the arched back is a mahogany stained spruce topped model. The earlier ones and the Corona D25's are flat back. There may be exceptions though, I'm not sure.

Well you learn something new everyday...and this works out better for me. Thanks for the info. I have only heard the D25M thinking it had a mahogany top when all along it was spruce. Then the D25NT should have the same sound that I am looking for. At this point, it isn't so much the look or stain as it is about the sound of the D25s I have heard.

Hey Ridge,
Have you seen this one?

Joe
:D
Yes I did Killdeer43. I do like the cherry color. I will wait a few days before I make a move.
