The red dye in the sunburst can fade with exposure to light and sometimes heat. Of course, it would depend on what manufacturer/source the dye came from. I'm not an expert, but I've seen it happen.......

But I mean still that nice brown with a more reddish light area in the middle. Seems like there was two different color stains in 1958/59?
Ah! So I misunderstood, I thought you prefer the three tone sunburst with the added red. I don't have a 1958 or 1959 catalog but the 1960 pricelist only showed natural or sunburst as color options. I think as they were sprayed by hand it depended what color from what manufacturer (like gilded said) the just had available to spray, so they all looked a bit different. And it depends how much sunlight the guitar saw over it's life as nitro lacquer strongly ages under sunlight and gets very yellow/amber over time. Hence some original light blue guitars look surf green today for instance.

this is great advice Ralf thank you!
i wonder if you can offer me any advice. i am playing a few years now, enjoy my 1979 gibson 175 but yearn for a guild instrument.
i am attracted to the m65 because of its small size but the more i play the 175 i do think i can manage close to that size, but wish the wood were lighter in weight...i think Guild made their body depths just slightly less than Gibson, not sure if that makes a real difference

can you give me any advice about what to go after as i post on the wtb section.

ps i know a logical choice might be a thin body like the 100d but i find the large size with very little depth doesn't feel better to me, i have tried that route...

i sincerely appreciate any advice you can offer!
