I added my third Guild in as many months - this time a westerly '99 (I think) x165 hollowbody with bigsby.
Its very similar to the westerly x170 I previously acquired - without the fretboard binding and inlay markers.
And with a fab trem.
Perfect condition and this one is a third variant for stringing - has phosphor bronze acoustic strings12-54 or so.
Man - I thought I was in guitar heaven with my two others - the aforementioned x170 and an absolutely glorious sounding x150 corona.
And I was right.
Those do take you to heaven - the x170 with regular nickel 12-54s, and the ballsy x-150 with nickel flat 11-52.
BUT this newby x165 with trem, strung with phosphor 12-54 is stellar. Unbeliveably good tuning, sounding.
I tune it a tone down to D - same as a regular tuning, but all 1 tone down.
SO - there it is 3 jazzers and I couldn't help myself - a D50 BGS tacoma (I think it was a 'factory second').
That thing is something of a mixed bird - the action is a shade too low.
It buzzes a tiny bit at the bottom strings - hasn't seen a luthier type yet.
But by golly, with some extra care, it sounds quite great. And it records something fierce.
Stays in tune for the longest time and has such a harmonically satisfying resonances.
I can only imagine what a D55 would be like to play
ANwaY .. carry on. Just more guild affordable dreams going on down here
PS - I have to figure how to post some pics here. Guild words without pics is not the same!
