Hello folks,

Didn't want to mess up that other thread, so I'm starting a new one:

Walter posted: 'have something I haven't posted on the forum yet...mine for a couple of months now'.

Here's one from the same batch that at some point was owned by Akira Tsumura and that appeared in his wonderful book 'Guitars - The Tsumura Collection'.

Really close serial number, but most likely completed a little later, since it has the Deluxe Kolb tuners with the 'diamond' shape buttons.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Is the adjustable, metal bridge original with the Bigsby, Hans? I see a wooden bridge with Tsumura-san's harp tailpiece model.

Thanks Hans! I know about the Tsumura book, but I've never actually had it in my hands.

This guitar kind of "happened to me" - I wasn't looking or shopping. Out of the blue an ad appeared on what's kind of our local version of Craigslist with a couple of pics of this guitar and the message "will trade for late 50's to early 60's dual Franz X175, Bigsby preferred".

At that point in time I had three - my trusty '62 I'm not selling as long as my hands work, a sunburst very early '63 I got over 15 years ago as "insurance/backup", and a very recent acquisition - that natural finish 1960 X150 I got as a husk and turned into a 175.

I had actually been thinking of selling the '63 - great guitar, great player with a good setup - but I rarely played it. I mainly got it as a backup/peace of mind guitar in case something happened to my beloved '62. (The guitar every longtime LTG'er has seen at nauseam, with the "WB" pickguard.)
And I don't need THREE old 175's, and I'm still the type of guy who feels a little weird when a fancy guitar like that just sits in the case most of the time.

Very long story short - turned out I knew the guy with the 350, he loved my 175, I LOVE the neck profile on the 350, so we traded straight across. I still think I traded up, but the guy was very happy, so...

It's a great guitar! Great chunky neck with not too much shoulder, strong pickups, good neck angle, fresh refret, strong pickups, etc.
I don't think I'd want a triple pickup Guild as my only player bc that middle pickup dóes get in the way for some things, but there are some great sounds in it. It can get ridiculously "stratty" for such a big guitar!

The middle and neck pickups are in the usual 5-6K range, and the neck pickup measured a whopping 8K - so I switched bridge and neck around and that balances out much nicer.
I have yet to get on stage with it - but I have had two band rehearsals with it, and it's very very promising! It's very bright and clear, and I'm surprised what a different feel and sound the maple neck brings compared to my usual mahogany - very punchy with a very big strong fundamental. Maybe more maple in the body factors in too?

Oh, and....the guitar isn't as clean or in fantastic shape as my pic would have you think - it's definitely a player. Fine checking all over, a couple of near bald/flakey spots here and there, and a lot of the finish on the back of the (very flamey!!) neck is gone.
No cracks or breaks though, and the binding is fine

That's a great back story Walter! And that's it's related to a guitar that was in the Tsumura collection is pretty cool, too. Congrats and enjoy!
