Nice of Gibson for sure, not to mention a good PR move on their part.

Just sayin',
Joe

Definitely a good PR move though, strangely, if you do a Google search for "Gibson gives Dave Schneider a new guitar" the only stories that come up are about the guitar being smashed, not the happy epilogue.

The word is getting out.

Since people asked, the Lee Vees site is here and they explain that being a Hanukkah themed band just means writing and performing songs about Hanukkah.

Two nice Jewish guys have taken up the important task of writing a bunch of great, rockin’ Hanukah songs. Adam Gardner (Guster) and Dave Schneider (the Zambonis) have joined forces and started a band called the LeeVees, and they have a new album of sweet and rockin’ indie-pop songs solely about Channuka called “Hanukkah Rocks.” Yes, every song is about Chanuka. Some say such a concept is a bit obsessive but Adam and Dave prefer the phrase “extremely focused.”

If, as a last resort, you have to gate check, those bags are actually more protective than most hardshell cases. Here's one of many demos online of those cases being put through throw tests.
.

Just don't drop it on the headstock: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_qPi2ltW14

Ouch! Yeah, I guess it didn't work out in that video, but there are dozens of others where it did very well. You can see that in the Pompeii video the guitar landed on its headstock more than once and did great. I own both the M80 and the RB Continental and I feel that for most situations, my guitars are much better protected in those cases than in traditional hardcases. The one area that traditional cases have them beat is for protection from crushing, but for protection from drops, I don't think those hybrid bag/cases can be beat.

Thinking about getting one. Figure they are OK for acoustics? Expensive???

They are pricey, yeah -- plus or minus $200, depending on where you get one. Hello Music, which is a daily deal site for gear, sometimes has very deep discounts on the Mono bags. And, if you apply one of the many coupons you can find if you poke around online, you can usually get an additional $20 to $30 off, bringing your total down to about $120. You have to become a member of Hello Music to shop there, but it's free to sign up.

Note that the guitar was gate checked. It then got wedged in the portable baggage elevator upon arrival. What is really incomprehensible is that (1) there was room in the overheads; and (2) Dave offered to buy the guitar its own seat! Delta joins the ranks of United as worst airlines on which to travel with a guitar.

See my complete write-up and links to flying with a guitar safely here:
