Yes I missed the 53 X175 he put up for sale but I caught this right after he listed it! I have always wanted a mid 50's Guild archtop and work has been good to me this year so in about a week I will see this at my door step!

Yes, congrats my friend. It will go out Monday and you should have it by Friday. I am missing it already, but I am keeping a select bunch of Guilds while diversing my collection more now to fit my needs. You will love the guitar just as much as I did. And the playability and sound are simply incredible.

And remember friends, under my latest for sale ad for the 1957 T100 shows a few more for sale. All are in Excellent condition. Most with original cases. PM me if you have any interest please.

Hurrah! Good that we're keeping the bulk of Mike's collection in the family.

Well I've had "Raquel" in my possession for a few days now. ( yes that is her name ) she is old but still "Hot"

It is a bright and very resonate guitar, the neck is awesome. The electrics work very well, no scratchy pots, tone pots mute the tone easily. But it is a 55yr old guitar with what appears to be all original parts and of course I am obsessive compulsive about working on all my guitars....(if I spent more time playing then tinkering I would be a better player.....)
It struggles to stay in tune but I could never replace those beautiful Kolb tuners, so I pulled one off to find that they are completely loose inside.

The covers are riveted and the only way to get them apart is to grind the rivet off carefully. I thought about it for a while then said the heck with it and used a dremel to grind the rivets off from the back side of the tuner to get the cover off.....
My findings were the screw that secures the gear to the post had backed off and the "worm" gear supports are loose on the back plate and the back plate is slightly bent and it is causing the worm gear to pull away from the post gear.......

Anyhow I'm happy knowing I will be able to repair the tuners, I will post some pics of the process in the tech section if anyone cares to see.

Once that is done I believe I am going to reverse the polarity of the neck pup so it will be in phase with the bridge in the middle position.

Well the tuner overhaul is done and I posted up in the tech section with a little slide show. Tuners work great! I also reversed the polarity on the neck pup and I bought a radius gauge so I could adjust the depth of the saddle notches so the strings would match the fret board radius...... All I can say is wow! the action is almost lower than my les paul..... the tone is incredible unplugged, could play as an acoustic easily.

Been playing it thru my champ clone and it sounds so good even at low volume....it just has that tone! and sustains better than my other archtops.....

Looking for a gold preferably vintage Guildsby to try out on the X550...... Anyone holding out?

Don't worry I am not going to drill any additional holes to mount it.

My plan is to make a small adapter base plate that would utilize the original tailpiece screws and then attach the guildsby to it. I did this to a les paul and it worked fine.

There are NOS Guildsby's on Ebay right now, apparently left over from the NH plant. Not gold though. You're about a month late - Angela Instruments had gold Guildsbies on Ebay recently.

Another option you have if you don't want to drill holes, is have someone fabricate a hinge plate for the Bigsby that's blank, no holes, and drill holes that correspond to the locations in the original tailpiece. Someone on the Gretsch forum did just that for mounting a Bigsby on a 50's Duo Jet, and it's the most elegant solution I've seen.
