gilded said:Hi West,
My band played at Arlington's Veterans Park this morning. 3rd year in a row. Lotta fun. Saw the sailor who kissed the girl on the cover of Life magazine in 1945. I waved at him, and he waved back, albeit from a wheel chair.
Got to sit with some Korean War Vets after the show. One of them turned to the other and said wryly,
''You remember when MacArthur said, 'Old Soldiers never die, they just fade, fade away'?''
The other one said,
'Well, two of my friends died this year.'
Then, my hand to God, they both started laughing. I guess we are losing them, West, but they are going in style.
Bump that. :wink:Dr. Spivey said:In Flanders Field
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
