I'm waitin for the come back of the avatars too. I have to admit there are some folks that I remember from their small pics but not from usernames.
But I'm sure the avatars will be back sooner or later …

Under "Settings": "My Settings", then "My Profile", then "Edit Avatar" allows you to to link to images stored on your PC just like the "old" software.
Me, I'm still tryin' to figure out Smileys.

The so called "Generic Smileys" all work even if they are mostly marked with those black X placeholders. When you go in preview they show up. All the "imported smileys" don't work yet. But it sounds like only a total of 4 smileys or included pictures is permitted per post, so use them wisely! (That last smiley was just a test so you see that they work, even if your draft shows the white X on black only.)

When I posted that only some of the smileys worked for me, even when I tested 'em in preview mode, even submitted a couple posts and tried to edit to be sure.
LOL was particularly frustrating.
In fact it's still not workin'.
But "Mad" does, LOL!
