Suzie the S-100 has had some loving. I got that ghastly blue paint off the pick-up surrounds with sandpaper, steel wool, cutting compound and elbow grease. I think they look pretty good. Also a re-fret - and while I was about it I got a bit more radius added to the fretboard. It has made a huge difference to playing comfort.

The fretboard was previously virtually flat in the middle and the radius is now about 12in

I'm going to add some foam or something to damp the strings behind the bridge. After that and a few adjustments to string spacing, neck relief and pick-up height, she'll be perfect. Jeff the matchmaker has my eternal gratitude.

Great job there Skip.

To sort-of unparaphrase Capnjuan ......... " Suzie is not a ho ! "

Of course not. Everyone knows Suzie is a headbanger.

She's come up real nice with the cosmetic surgery but I know you really love her for her personality. May you her enjoy her for a long time.

Hi Fearless, good to know that you are finally able to enjoy it. I`m sure it`s been worth the wait.
Anyway, headbanger or ho, at least you know those HB1`S will always put out.

Say what you want, that's one fine looking guitar. 8)

Nice to hear the blue paint came off, sorry I missed that till after I got it home.

Suzie's the real deal, I enjoyed having her for a while & thought she played well, as she was, must be a truly fine player now.

:

After having Fearless' guitar in my hands a while, I got to missing a solid body electric, caused me to buy a Guild Strat clone.
A Sprint I think, 3 pu, 5 way selector switch, bolt on neck, rosewood fingerboard. Cured my Strat itch 8)

Thanks to Fearless for kicking me off the dime. :)

I am glad my original idea from your first thread some time ago worked out so well! How did your luthier solved the issue with the inlays when reducing the radius? Did he remove them and reglued them or were they just thick enough? Just curious, I remember that was your original "fear".

Thanks for the kind words all. Jeff, I'm glad Suzie's sleepover ignited something for you!

Last night I gave her a bit more attention, set the string alignment properly, added a touch more neck relief and a smidgeon of grey foam to damp the strings behind the bridge. Worked perfectly. The scratches in the pickguard actually turned out to be in the back of it and they polished out. And the odd looking patches around the pick-up screws were some old evaporated sticky liquid like lemonade or something. Or maybe bourbon whiskey or peyote juice spilled by the guy who painted the pick-up covers blue.

Jeff, the Sprint is a guitar I don't really know, apart from a very few posts I've seen here. So you actually did buy one? How does it compare with a Strat? Has there been a report for the collective?

Ralf, I had totally forgotten you suggested it - thank you! No he didn't need to remove them and they look 100% so must have been thick enough although there is know way of knowing how much thickness is left without removing them. The filing/refinishing has made them look even better than they were.

My original "fear" - he he! Somehow "man whose fears and concerns are sometimes in proportion to actual risk, but who has a tendency to irrational optimism" doesn't have the same ring as "fearless"!
