A King Crimson documentary film, In the Court of the Crimson King, is set for its premiere at the 2022 SXSW Film Festival in March. From there it will undoubtedly make its way into some form of distribution, which will probably include streaming.

The link below leads to a blurb on the documentary and contains a rather schizoid first trailer for the film. It also has a link for the SXSW Festival screening.

Fripp himself toes the line, closing the trailer saying “I can’t be the only sane man in this asylum.”
An official description of the film reads,
What began as a traditional documentary about the legendary band King Crimson as it turned 50, mutated into an exploration of time, death, family, and the transcendent power of music to change lives; but with jokes.
In the Court of the Crimson King is a dark, comic film for anyone who wonders whether it is worth sacrificing everything for just a single moment of transcendence. It explores the unique creative environment of King Crimson, one in which freedom and responsibility conspire to place extraordinary demands on the band’s members – only alleviated by the applause of an audience whose adoration threatens to make their lives even harder. It’s a rewarding and perilous space in which the extraordinary is possible, nothing is certain, and not everyone survives intact.

I'll definitely have to keep a lookout for that one when it's released.

can't wait for this!! 🤘 🤘

Crimson and insanity....that was me attempting to set optimal input levels on my Pioneer CTF950 tape deck while dubbing Larks Tongue from vinyl to cassette to listen in the car.🤯

Just for you, Larks Toungues live (have to click through to Youtube):

With madman percussionist,Jaimie Muir, ex The Music Improvisation Company:

Fripp definitely had colleagues who were even further out on the fringes than him.

No doubt about Fripp not being the lone loon of the bunch. They've had many. I see Belew every time he comes around. Absolutely LOVE his stuff (especially his last album!), but not really sure I'd want to hang with him for more than maybe 5 min.

Pop Sided...one of my fav albums of the last 5 yrs!!

I think this forum bunch, if willing to sit back and let this album ride out, would not only enjoy, but relate, and even come to love. It's that good...as a collection of songs. (y) (it goes without saying, if you are even clicking on a Crimson thread, you are already 2/3 away from loving this album!

The King Crimson at the Mann in Philadelphia last summer was outstanding!
I have now seen this incarnation of King Crimson 3 times in the last 6 or so years and they have been better each time with the last show blowing me away!
The 3-drummers out front look cool and when the set the rythem syncapation down or go into a 3 drummer vamp lead it is awsom. The last show was very cool because they did the classic tunes and riffs then progressed into a jazz fusion sequence then returning to the classic riff or progress into another classic song. It was fantastic!

Was listening to an interview with Fripp a year or so ago and he explained he had no intention of being a musician. Said his plan in life was to be a real estate lawyer and work with his dads large realestate business. While in grad school he was totally immersed in his studies and lost connection and track of what was happening in the popular music scene. As it was...he finished up some graduate assignment late in the night and got in his car to drive home or his apartment. It was midnight or possibly later. He turns the radio on and hears for the 1st time the Beatles Sgt Pepper , then a Beethoven composition Symphony followed by Hendrix Purple Haze. He was so blown away by what he heard and the direction music had changed that the next day he dropped out of law school and commited to be a guitarist. He and Greg Lake went to the same guitar teacher. Which eventually led to their formation of the band.

no one would forget dubbing Larks Tongue! The levels increased as the album went on! You'd set optimal levels based on the average of bouncing the needle on 4-5 places on side one. Then you'd set you're "0" level, press record and let it ride. And in not long, that's when all hell breaks loose and the volume increases with growing intensity!! You're in the red!!! Abort! Start over again!:cautious: Friggin weirdos! :ROFLMAO:

Pioneer Super Tuner w/ Jensen Triaxle. Bliss!

Great- so I guess you can go to Tx to see it then

"You" Me - Not me. Not flying to Texas. ;)

"You" You:
  • Option 1: Buy a ticket and fly to Texas.
  • Option 2: March 15 Festival showing online - US only (or minor IT Deviousness) - ask your computer nerd friends.
  • Option 3: Patience. It will undoubtedly show up in some theatres in larger cities or on a streaming service somewhere, eventually. The film festival is, in part, like a trade show where you show your wares hoping to negotiate a sale of distribution rights. People from around the globe who do theatre distribution and/or streaming distribution will be in attendance looking for new product.
  • Option 4: Extraordinary patience. It will also undoubtedly end up on DVD or Bluray.

Enjoyed KC over the years but never got to see them live until about 7 years ago. And have seen them 3 times over the last 7 years. Each show was better than the previous show with the show last September at The Mann in Philadelphia being the best. That show took their classics and wrapped them into the current bands advanced intricate fusion instrumentals resulting in a fantastic performance that satisfied all attendance and estatic for those who could keep track of all the intricate and classic music.
A pretty wild event!
