To me, this rivals (or even surpasses) the old white "That Girl" pickguard on the Everly Brothers model. I've always liked the Southern Jumbo, but this custom shop model would get a pass by me, regardless of how it sounded and played. Plus, its too big to easily be replace by a better looking one.

In case you're not familiar with the Everly model:

It's not just the shape, but the material they chose. Yuck!

“Yuck” is definitely the correct work to describe both.

I know that some love it, but I have never found Gibson's version of bling appealing in any way. That's why my WM45 is perfect for me.

While the Everly model is not my style, at least it’s got SOME style and design thought. One of the ugliest to my eye, also from Gibson, is the one that came on the Gibson Folksinger model. Obnoxious on the natural top, and absolutely no style whatsoever.

Probably modeled on the traditional flamenco tap plates, although they are usually clear:

Yes, looks exactly like an adhesive tape repair job.

As someone who's very fond of Gibsons, my all-time favorite pickguard shape is the batwing style in a plain tortoise color - especially if they've done a good job of applying it so that the curve of the pickguard closely follows the waist. ‘00 J-100xt:

I have never found the “moustache” bridge to be appealing.
Same here. A few luthiers I respect think that they don't do anything to help tone, and make re-gluing difficult as well.

Hmmm. 🤔 Where have I seen that rosette before?

And you should just about be able to see my preferred pickguard; especially for figured tops.

Aesthetics of course are in the eye of the beholder, and for me, a blingless mustache bridge is my second favorite, right behind Guild’s two-point bridge from the ’70s & beyond. That said, tonal impacts are, imho, very much over-analyzed on many guitar components & often assigned overreaching importance. Typically, you either have a good example of the breed or you don’t, and the difference will be obvious.

However, for anyone contemplating the purchase of one of these beasts (counting you out, Sandy!), I would not purchase one with the four-ribbon MOP inlays. The two northward inlays cause a large gap between the saddle & pins, negatively impacting string break angle at the saddle. There are no-ribbon versions like mine, two-ribbon (south of the pins), and the dreaded (imho) four-ribboners.

Reminds me of that "split level" black hairstyle that was popular for about 30 seconds in the early 90's.
