Those are an open gear tuner with a screw-in type bushing with washer - 2 locating screws per tuner.

I think they're clever and Gotoh make fantastic tuners but I remember reading a comment when they first came out, "combines none of the benefits of both sealed gear and open gear tuners.'

I like them.

actually the bushings are pressed in 7.8 mm in length, which are 2 mm longer than the bushings in guitar from factory.I do agree that the tuners are a clever look.

You're right the SXB510's are push-fit bushings - my mistake I mixed them up with SXN510's.

I think the comment about the SXN's referred to open gears being exposed to dust and the elements compared to sealed gears and the large washers on front not being as visually attractive as the smaller push fit bushings - I could see the point.

so ,ive had these new
gotoh cosmos black tuners
sxb510,s on my guitar for 10 days. quite possibly the smoothest tuners ive had on any guitar. The 2 screw mounting holes matched up perfectly with original holes. The only mod needed was to enlarge the bushing hole on front of headstock. Original bushings are 8.5 mm. The new bushings are 8.7 mm.I accomplished the enlargement by using a half round medium cut diamond file. Just to ensure ,not to chip ,finish on headstock. Worked perfectly .Also note ,that these new bushings are 2mm longer than original. So there is more of the tuning post actually inside the bushing. Great tuners.

Let's see a picture when you're done. Personally, I'd probably go for silver or gold butterbeans against a black headstock, but that's just me. As for open-gear versus closed, I think it's purely a matter of taste, just get 18:1 (or higher) if you can, for tuner accuracy.

Gotohs are good. Open-backs weigh a little less. They're mainly just a fashion statement your audience will never see.

I'd pick the style and color of the original tuners.

Lol?

Interesting. I even checked the Gotoh webpage and in the past they always showed Gotoh on the tuners but they changed that to show the number of the series on the tuners now. Nice to identify the tuners but still odd.
