As an Aussie I am so proud to see Tommy Emmanuals name mentioned! Speaking of BIG guys, I met him at Melbourne airport once and he's much taller in person than I could tell when he was on stage.

My list would include Phil Keaggy, Carlos Santana, Tommy, Clapton, SRV, The Edge and finally the terror twins Steve Clark and Phil Collen... Sorry its more than three but its hard to pick only three given the many different styles I like to listen to...

Cheers,
Mick

Graham also has a picture floating around here somewhere of himself and his good friend Doyle Dykes.

Well, usually i like listening to Django Reinhardt, Carlos Santana, or Phil Keaggy, but often I like Eldon Shamblin, Blind Willie Johnson, or Clarence White, other times....

Mando, love the stuff that Django did with Stephane Grappelli and the Quintette.

  • Norman Blake
  • Al DiMeola
  • Alvin Lee
  • I've got a whole bunch more!

He's awesome on the later stuff, too, but best with Steph!

I could have mentioned Tony & Norman, but tried to limit it!
Someone else did mention Tony, though; heard if he's over his pneumonia, yet?

Dunno about this " Idol " status thing, but I'd travel lotsa miles to see these three. Assuming that RG was alive still.

Peter Green ca. 1970.

Rory Gallagher.

Jeff Beck.

Hm, been a while since I answered this one.

East Bay Ray (Dead Kennedys). There was no such thing as a punk virtuoso. Not until this guy.
Dave Navarro (Jane's Addiction) Listen to Three Days. Listen to it. :)
And I know he's technically not a guitarist, but my current #3 spot goes to Mark Sandman (Morphine). Man, that guy had soul. May his forever rest in peace.
