Just when we had been lamenting about Guild and its future, we learned that CMG was in the final phases of buying it. Let us hope that the deal has been finalized. After reading this recent article, Guitar Center and Music Group Break Up, on the guitarsite.com, it is apparent we (Guild) may have been the first ones to get into a lifeboat. Not knowing anything about Music Group, a little research on their website indicates they are a big fish. Just a sign of the times or handwriting on the wall, I'm so glad a quality guitar manufacturer has bought Guild when they did. Looking to a bright future for Guild at CMG.

The story may also indicate that the music manufacturing business as a whole may have reached some kind of limits, even if they are temporary.

And also supports Fender's inability to float an IPO. Few investors were confident enough in the company's growth potential. That's a very interesting article - GC going out will be as tumultuous to the music industry as Border's Books closing shop. And the funny thing is that I haven't missed their presence very much.

There are a hopefully quite a few independents waiting to blossom once the other shoe drops.

It's going to be very interesting to see what happens to Fender going forward. My guess would be consolidation & a "smaller" more streamlined company going forward. It could be that the days of the huge musical conglomerates are numbered, at least the ones owned by Burger King.

Thanks for the link - that was an interesting article, and an interesting commentary on the state of the "gear selling" business.

I agree that I am very encouraged for Guild's future. I am hoping that they still churn out F30s. :)

I hope so too........seems there were a lot of limited runs of F-30s out of New Hartford; so the F-30s seems to be a pretty popular platform in this respect. It was nice to see the 1 3/4" nut finally show up on some of the F-30 guitars too. Who knows, someday we may see a Traditional F-30 Aragon, with a wider 1 3/4" nut.

The Aragons with the 1 1/16th nuts aren't too shabby either. Mine has turned a certifiable dreadhead into an F'in believer.
