I've never been punctual. It has annoyed people at work. When I was a welder I was also late at punching in my time card in the morning. Got written up multiple times. Possibly time card punching may have motivated me to college after 5 years of punching a time card.
I'm still that way today. Everyone knows if you want me to attend a morning meeting don't schedule it before 9:30 am. However I'm ok if you schedule it for 9:30 pm! Naturally that never happens but program managers know they can get hold of me in the evening.
Another thing is I never take work home. No VPN laptops and no company phones. My son is a software engineer and works from home; I could never do it. During the pandemic I had a contractor job. The company asked me to work from home. I refused. That was even based on as a contractor I worked away and stayed in a cheap hotel 3 nights a week.
Not justifying my poor timeliness but it is what it is.
Some in my family have referred to me as "the late matsickma" only to realize that many people think I passed away. I don't like jewelry so was happy when cell phones provide time so I could abandon wearing a watch.
I have to say that I enjoy working for three reasons: 1) fun working with young and old and get a lot of laughs at work, 2) it makes my time off and away from work all the more valued and 3) $ is always good to have.
The one exception I have to timeliness is the following during the work week: be in bed by 2am, get up and out of bed by 8:30 am. Now the clock starts. I shower before bed so my goal is to make two mugs of coffee and be out the door to start my drive to work within 10 minutes!
After that...I'm flexible!
