So I had a real bad day to day and as I'm leaving the office after a 4 hr drive out of town, I stop at a very popular mom and pop music store that I used to visit everytime I would go to this particular city. This store always had Huss and Dalton guitars and usually had some Guilds. Well I walk in today and now they are a Larivee dealer and although I prefer Huss and Dalton and Guilds, I like Larivees and they have one beautiful 4k dollar jumbo rosewood model. I ask if it's cool to play it and the young college kid says sure (when they had Huss and Daltons you literally had to be supervised when playing them) so I take it down and have a seat. The kid asked if I would like to plug into an amp and I say sure. I NEVER play through an amp. I've bought two amps in my life other than my old Matrix gigging equipment. So the kid plugs me into and amp and I LOVE the sound coming out but can recognize that it's the amp. not the guitar that Im in love with. I say "wow, I love how this amp." I ask how much it is and he says "uh 70 bucks." I said "wow why does it sound so good." He said idk its a cheap amp from the 80's I think, it didn't work but I just had to re-soder two wires together. I asked if he could give me a cheaper guitar and he gives me this crappy composite/resin type guitar that was awful and the amp still made it sound pretty good.

Now I know almost nothing about amps and I said for that price F-it, I'll buy it because I'm a sound guy and it sounded amazing. Like a John Mayer two rock slow dancing sound, super choppy and had great reverb. When I walk it up he says, oops, it's actually 59 bucks but since youre buying some cleartone strings, I'll give it to you for 55. Ii buy the amp and the strings and head out. I get home and look it up. It's an Epiphone Regent 30 Acoustic Amp. It goes from 299-500 depending on where you look.

That's a great deal you got! And a great story! Very lucky! And the amp should be much younger than the 80's, it was produced between 1995 and 2004 as far as I found.

I'm confused.
It sounds like it did happen to you.
:confusion:

It DID. Finally. For once. I don't find too many deals or get to prosper from someones mistake. I definitely got a great deal this time.

My story of my first Guild is an intersting one as well that in my opinion is the deal of my life but the actual "value" was probably right on. When my guitar playing got to the point where I felt like I needed/deserved a hig end guitar, I put an add on Craigslist that said: Looking to trade several items for a high end guitar. Looking preferably for a Martin, Taylor or Larivee but am open to other makes. I listed all my items available for trade and said that I would trade them in any combination that would equal the worth of the guitar you had. I got two responses fairly quick. The first was for a lower tier Taylor that was a fair deal but immediately after I got contacted by a guy that offered me a Guild. I new NOTHING about Guilds other than I knew SRV played a 12 string in the MTV unplugged series. So I did some researech on the model and saw that depending on where I looked, I was either getting a fair deal or a good deal, meaning the value was equal or I was making out. The guy had a 2001 Guild F47rce and wanted my Glocl 26 ($400), my mid 90's Mexican Strat (350) and my Benelli Shotgun ($600ish but I got it from a friend for like $350). The Benelli was the only decision I had to think about and the fact that I got a deal from a friend made it easier to pull the trigger. The guy said he didn't have any pictures which made me a little nervous and when I met the guy he pulled out the guitar from its case and it was dusty and had strings on it that werre damn near rusting they were so old. BUT....it still sounded good enough (once I tuned it) and had almost no dings or imperfections that I made the trade. I've said a million times since that my F47rce is the best sounding guitar I've ever heard. I wouldn't sell it for anything under 10k even though I know its worth much less. That was first Guild and Ive bought a lot of guitars since and its still my favorite and im sure always will be.

This should be moved to Amps & Effects. This part of the forum is for Guild-brand gear.

Great story in spite of it being in the "wrong forum"!
