This just showed up at Willie's Guitars, a 1950s Guild M-75 Aristocrat Tenor, the Tiny Grimes model. According to "the bible" they made several of 4-string guitars, on the superstructure of a CE-100, for Tiny Grimes, but there was no mention of a four-string Aristocrat model. Paging Hans!

Wow, interesting. Someone should let Neko Case know - she's one of the few modern artists I know who uses tenor guitars.

The tailpiece of that M-75 Tenor at Willies does definitely not look original to me.
Anyway, there were a few such tenors made, this link to the Youngbloods Lowell Levinger (Banana) guitars was posted a few times before which shows a beautiful example:

The one at Willies has the single G headstock veneer, the Lowell Levinger one has no G.

By the way, have you seen this black tenor before?

"Ahh, the tenor guitar", he said, waxing nostalgic as he remembered his Stella 4-string.

There is a special place, forever reserved in my heart, for so-called "tenor" guitars. If I had started with one of these Guild beauties, well, it may defy imagination as to where I'd be today! :D
