'This is the 21st century, he said. 'I don't waste money on newspapers. Here, you can borrow my iPad.'

The argument we in the newspaper business used to make against those who said they would rather read the paper online was that "you can't take the newspaper in the john with you." That argument is void now in the era of iPads, tables and smartphones.

But you still can't line the bird cage or wrap fish in an iPad! Nor would you want to. Long live newspapers ... at least until I get another job!
