As in "Surfin' Bird" fame?Tony played in a band called the Trashmen and he took me to a shop he had a good relationship with.
The bird is the word!As in "Surfin' Bird" fame?
Indeed it is!The bird is the word!
Ha! Everybody knows that the bird is the word -- for sure! The bird is the word!

That 60s piece/group is even crazier than the one I toured briefly with -- The Monster Mash/Bobby 'Boris' Pickett. Some crazy stuff came out in the 60s! It was like the Cambrian Explosion of pop music!

Was it like THIS???So back in '68 when I was a freshman at UCLA one noon I was walking down Bruin Walk which was a long incline. There were always various political group members along the along the way that would accost and try to engage students who were trying to get to another class or more importantly grab some lunch. At the time there were also several evangelical groups that seemed to be everywhere--this one day this guy ran up to me and asked:
"HAVE YOU HEARD THE WORD?". Without missing a beat, I replied "Of course--THE BIRD IS THE WORD!" and proceeded to sing the entire
song as he followed me screaming "BLASPHEMY!" and trying to stop me from continuing on my way. Don't mess with someone who went to Redondo Union High School, fool!
Very cool. Monster Mash was a hit in '61 and made the charts again in'73; that would be when I was dancing to it.That 60s piece/group is even crazier than the one I toured briefly with -- The Monster Mash/Bobby 'Boris' Pickett.
That's when I toured with him -- 4 band members, 3 backup singers, Bobby and his manager, all in a big old RV/bus heading to Dallas and St. Louis..... Craziest of times!...made the charts again in'73; that would be when I was dancing to it.
