I spent 15 hours cleaning viruses off a friend's computer and I told her that "If it wasn't for the fact that you're short and wear tanktops, I never would have touched this computer." She laughed.

Love transposing the computer age into history.
I still wonder how the pioneers ever made it to the Pacific without GPS, laptops, and cell phones.
Lewis and Clark could have ditched Sacajawea, but we would have missed a great story.

Or something like that,

When I do computer freebies for friends I usually only get dinner out of it. Maybe I need to cultivate some eye candy?

Hint - invest $20 in a cable so you can pull a hard drive out of any machine and use it as an external USB drive elsewhere. I've had some good dinners because I could recover data from dead laptops and sometimes it is easier to do the scan/remove/rescan cycle when the infected drive was not the boot drive.

That's normally what I would do, except it was so trashed that I didn't want it to touch another windows box. I ended up using a partition magic linux disk to manually clean out the temp files as well as dropping a script onto the desktop to unlock the registry. Even after scanning it with the usual tools, I still ended up cleaning up the leftovers by hand.
Not cost effective, but it makes me look like I know what I'm doing.
