Pretty nice. It looks HUGE compared to those horses in the background.

thanks. it is a beastly guitar, not really Guilds best design, but somehow strangely appealing
the pony and the filly in the background weren't the least bit impressed though

the poor refinish no longer bothers me, the guitar still has plenty of mojo left
it's the sound and playability that matters
it doesn't play easily, action is high, it is quite heavy, the tremolo is a toy, some of the controls get in the way of my playing, but it forces me to take whatever I play more seriously.
What amazes me most is the variety in sounds and styles this guitar can produce, it can handle pretty much any music style, even heavy metal except mathcore, grindcore, whatever it is called nowadays
All in all, an exceptionally well engineered (apart from the crash-o-matic stand) and beautifully crafted instrument.

Hello bieke,

When you say 'electronics are all original' you mean the pots and the wiring as well?
I've never seen a Guild from that period that didn't have the EIA codes stamped on the pots.
Maybe you did look in the wrong place. In those days they used pots that have the codes stamped into the side of the housing, not the back.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Hi Hans,
yup, electronics are all original AFAIK, same style of pots and cloth wire as in my 1960 T-50, a bit of opening a can of worms when I took the plate off the Thunderbird (had to take care not to break the ground connection), that's probably why I didn't spot the pot codes on the side

a quick update

I received a NOS hinge from forumite workedinwesterly, who has been very helpful
the hinge fitted like a charm straight away
now I still am stuck with the stand from a Polara which is 1" too short
the stand works, but it looks a bit weird
I found a nice piece of high chromium steel, which I can cut to measure, drill and buff to make it look just look the part

also, forumite workedinwesterly sorted me out with a new NOS switch, which I soldered in place of the original dodgy switch, when playing my S-200, if I accidentally touched the switch, I got no sound at all
while replacing the switch, I also shielded the back of the pickguard with aluminium foil because it somehow picked up static, and every time my guitar pick touched the pickguard I got a noticeable ticking sound
well, all that's sorted now ...

so far, I'm still digging that S-200 a lot
I've been playing it every day

I know this is an ancient thread, but in the interest of "better late than never", there is that guy kicking around who has been trying to sell that body shortened T-Bird that, as a result of said truncating, has a kickstand that is too long. If you two traded, a significant part of the known universe would realign.

Here's a link to the thread where this misshapen monstrosity was excoriated.

Yes, it IS "National Use Your Vocabulary Day", why do you ask?

Should this take place, would your handle revert to Felix Unger?
