Ok, taabru I get it! Thanks for the info. As I said before I was always a little leery about post Westerly instruments and never paid much attention. But if this guitar is any indication I was sure wrong about that. This particular D40 actually reminds me a little of the built of some of the older Hoboken guitars I've played, including my 1968 F30.

Keep telling everyone that the Corona Guilds are crap...that way we can keep the prices a bit lower than the Westerly....Like I said they are terrific... maybe a few of them had finish issues, but this was around the time when they were banning some of the finishing chemicals to go green...the guitars themselves,,,,well every bit as good, in my and many others opinion... keep it quiet though...if anyone asks, naah....westerlies are the best... :D Steffan

The first Corona D40 that I bought was serial # CVM000632 and the invoice is dated 8/6/03. I returned that guitar for a reason that I don't remember. In exchange I got another Corona D40 serial # CVM000783 and that invoice is dated 8/13/04. Both Guitars have the same finish as your guitar. This info should shed some light on the year of your guitar.

I've got 000894, I bought in Oct. '04, a Richie Havens natural top, perfect out of the box and only getting better. Almost time for its first fret job, getting close to 300 hours on it. The sustain is improving very slowly on this one but resonance is improving noticably in the last year. When Hans helped me date it last September he was still working on Corona serial # lists, but he thought it was probably from '03 with a slight possibilty it was an '04, so I date it based on that. What I find interesting are the comments about weight, the D40 feels noticably heavier than my D25 but I've always considered the '25 to be a real featherweight. At $600.00 for a barely played instrument yours DOES sound like a steal! Congrats!
