Toni and I are canvassing for those who may be interested in a Texas Hill Country outing this spring. Early thoughts:

Collings Guitar Plant Tour: http://www.collingsguitars.com/Tour/entrance.html

Pig Roast, Open House and Open mic at Texas Hill Country Guitars: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... UKPRKRbiGY. Local Americana musicians usually swing by...

An Evening at Gruene Hall: http://gruenehall.com/

Picnic with lots of guitar picking...

We need 15 to 20 to validate the events. Any interest for an April event?

Scratch sends...

Always interested in a Hill Country event Ken.......it's just a matter of time and money and whether those things are available at the time. We'll see.

When do you have to know Scratch? This sounds like something I'd love to take the wife too and get away for awhile :)

Hi Ravon,

We'd probably need to know something within five weeks or so. Other things to note:

Billeting/housing accomodations here in the Hill Country are mostly B&B. They're located throughout the Canyon lake, Wimberly, Sattler area. Lots of campgrounds available although those along the Guadalupe River fill up rather quickly...

The nearest hotels are in Blanco (20 miles), New Braunfels and/or San Marcos (about 25 to 30 miles distant). To work the logistical issues, we'll need to know if we have enough interest by the end of January. Texas wildflower season is typically mid-March through April which brings lots of tourists to the area. I'll need to give Dwain at HCG enough time to prepare for the pig-roast and advertise the jam/get-together throughout the area.

Wimberly is a beautiful setting and highly recommended for those desiring cabin accomodations. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Tourism-g569 ... tions.html

Not much response on the Hill Country Outing, so I thought maybe we'd replace it with a Ninfa's gathering for Texans who live within reasonable commuting distance this spring. It's a great little restaurant; a perfect setting for an outing.

I talked with our good friend and owner of Ninfa's Lakeside Restaurant a couple of weeks ago about using the Garden Room for a Jam Session. She's happy to oblige. I've already checked with RussD who is all for it. The thought is to have the run of the place as long as we want it on any Saturday from anytime we choose until 9:00pm. The Garden Room is a screened room approximately 24' by 24'. It looks over Canyon Lake. No A/C, so we'd want to do this before hot weather. Russ, West and I played there in 100 degree heat on Memorial Day 2008, so that gives you some idea of the possible extremes.

My suggestion would be mid-April to mid-May timeframe. Sandy serves a Mexican food menu as well as the best burgers on this side of the lake. Beer and Wine; iced tea and soft drinks are available. We'll have run of the place although I'm sure diners will sit in to hear the music. I can bring my Marshall 50W amp; mics etc... Just bring your guitar, friends if you wish and an appetite. I envision an open mic type arrangement; maybe rotating three song sets or something similar.

If interested, I need to know by 1 March so I can give Sandy an idea of how many to expect.

Here's the Restaurant and an idea of the Garden Room setup:

As Jim pointed out way back in December, it's not about the interest as much as it's about time and money!
It's a great time of year for the Hill Country and I'd be willing to bet that the music/food/camaraderie will be decent enough.

Have fun,
Joe

Hear here! Sounds like great fun Ken, but time and money are the issues. As always, Mrs. West is snowed under that time of the year. We'll be in the middle of shutdown season at my work, and I'm also probably going under the knife in the next few weeks, with no idea how long it will take to recover.

Well, I went "under the knife" a couple of months ago and I'm pretty sure I'm recovered. Still as good looking as ever!

Hope your "knifing" goes well, Jim.

Take care of yourself,
Joe

Well, having just returned from my first outing to the Texas Hill Country I'd love to be able to afford the time and $$$ to return.

He's wanting to do a double fusion Kenster.....tie 3 of those babies together (C5-6 and C4-5). Getting a second opinion tomorrow, but have no reason to doubt the first surgeon.
