Starfire IV neck profile question

I'm a big fan of Starfire basses and have played a bunch of Gibson ES-335 and Epiphone Riviera guitars. Recently, I've been getting curious about the stop-tail Starfire IV. I am under the impression that the necks on these tend to run on the thin (measured front to back) side. I dislike this type of neck, preferring some chunk, a-la Gibson "59-rounded" profile at a minimum.

Is my impression that SF IV necks tend generally to be on the thin side correct or erroneous? Are there particular years or factories of manufacture I should be looking for, or are the neck thickness tendencies pretty random? Years ago, I had Guild "Slim Jim" from the early-to-mid 60s ("open-book" headstock) that had a comfortably-thick neck. The necks on the Starfire basses I've played have all been pretty uniform (narrow, but not thin).

Thanks in advance for your input.

Hi
I have 1981 SF-4 and the neck is not chunky. It is similar to an EBMM neck if you have ever played one of those. It is not Ibanez thin but I would say it is slim.

‘70s and ‘80s necks tend to be smaller. Late ‘90s get wider and the ‘00s get deeper.

In my experience, anyway.

Mine, too, though my '97 SF-4 has quite a shallow profile.

Beginning to sound like, as per my initial impression, this is one of those guitars best vetted in-person, given my profile preferences.

Too bad: that really narrows the field of potential candidates.

Many sellers have started listing neck depth measurements in their sale ads. This is a good thing because I'm of the same opinion as the OP in that I dislike thin necks.
I have a ca. '95 SF IV with a nice rounded profile neck.

Perhaps not as much as you might think. Since you want a stop-tail, they only started making those in the '80s, so all of the '60s and '70s Starfires would be out anyway since they have harps.

Good to know. The 60s-70s ones in really good condition tend to exceed my budget anyhow.

That would be a Westerly, correct?
Yes.
