I'm about to take delivery of a 2014 American Patriarch X-500 Stuart, for which I'm trading my 1956 A-500. This model was part of the three model American Patriarch custom shop series at New Hartford. I think mine is one of the last to be made at NH. One of the Fender execs grabbed this one just before the factory closed in 2014. It never was for sale, thus there is no label inside, though the serial number is stamped on the back of the headstock in the usual place.

My question for those who know details of the various X-500 iterations, one, where did the "Stuart" name come from for some of the early Guild models. Second, I heard that the waist of my X-500 is more narrow than later iterations of the model. And, based on a 1957 X-500, this re-issue has the Franz "frequency tested" single coil pickups, instead of the later HB-1s. Any other differences I would appreciate to know about.

I tried to find out the source of the name Stuart some time ago and came up with nothing. My thread on the subject from 2020:

Just guessing but they are all three street names in Brooklyn. No idea if this is the source. Did Al Dronge have a Brooklyn connection?

Mike Lewis had told me that the 2013 version was based on a 1956 X-500 which Guild aquired. (the Artist Award was based on a 1957 one)

Thanks, Ralf. I had gotten confused. Also, who is Mike Lewis?

That would make sense as having the narrower waist of the Epiphones being built by ex Epiphone employees.
Thanks john

Jimmy the First was known for his extensive collection of Guilds.
The Mughal emperor, Jahangir, who ascended the throne in 1605 was ten times more wealthy than James I of England, aka Jimmy Stewart. At that time, India and China possessed 50% of the world's wealth. By 1945, both had been reduced to 2% each, mostly by colonialism's economic policies.

James I of England (James VI of Scotland) would be Jimmy Stuart 😉 Although the name was originally Stewart, by that time the spelling had been changed. During the 16th century French influence led to the adoption of the spellings Stuart and Steuart, because there was no letter "w" in the French alphabet!

Yes, but we still haven't heard from Hans as to the origin of the name used by Guild in the 50s.o_O
Hans may know for sure, but I think street or neighborhood names seems most likely to me, as Brad posted earlier.

The only thing I could find in a quick pass through the bible is a discussion of the change from A-50 Granada to A-50 Cordoba in 1961 (having to do with Gibson). Beyond that, I didn't see anything about the Capri, Manhattan, Stuart, or Stratford sobriquets, Rich.
