They actually changed to numbers only much earlier than this. My 1979 S-300 knobs are no text and numbered 1-10, rather than 1-9They have text labels for Volume and Tone. They are metric repros of the older style of Guild knobs. The newer ones during the Fender-Guild era just have numbers and no text.

Oh, you're right, POD. I always thought they were changed with the Fender takeover.
