Does anyone have clips of this guitar, or know where I can find some? A trade opportunity has presented itself. No easy access at the moment to an actual example, and I've never tried one of these before.

Thanks

Hey Man. I can video some short clips for you if you'd like. I have a Starfire IV and play through a Deluxe Reverb. I bought mine from a guy on this forum without playing it and can say it is one of the sweetest guitars I've ever played or owned. As nice or nicer than any modern 335. It can play anything from country to jazz to hard rock and sound totally kick ass. For the price they're going for I wish I could buy a couple more just to have. Send me a message if you'd like me to record something.

I have a '99 and I love it. I'd be happy to record something for you, but I've swapped the pickups in mine. If you're still interested let me know.

Here you go. 2000 Starfire 4 with WCR Goodwood pickups into the clean channel of my Peavey JSX. Only effect is a little reverb. Recorded with an Olympus LS-10 field recorder at about four feet from the amp. Not very loud, so it only sounds better at volume.

Guitar set with all knobs on 10. Only changes were the selector switch.

Apologies about any mistakes. It's cold, I didn't warm up, I just fought off a band of ninjas, there was locusts and I suck. :)

Bear in mind that these are $300 WCR hand-wound pickups and not stock Guild pickups. And don't forget to factor in the suck from the player. Should balance out. :)

GAD:

Thank you so much. I have enjoyed your clips. (The Ninjas and locusts did not seem to greatly impede you!) This guitar sounds on the bright side. In a good way. How would you say those WCR pickups are different from the stock ones in that guitar? It doesn't sound much like my old ES-335, which was one of the questions I hoped clipped would answer.

Wish I could get my hands on one of these SFs to try.

Thanks for understanding my ninja/locust problem. :)

The WCRs are magnificent pickups. In fact they're the best I've ever heard. They are very articulate which solves my main complaint with the stock pickups - that they're a little muddy. What model those originals are is up for discussion in another thread as I type. :) The stock pickups lack clarity to my ears, and that might be a loss of the highs.

Remember too that setup can alter the sound. The height of the pickups and so-on.

Lastly the guitar I played in the clips is maple with a 'hog neck:

The all-mahogany SFIV I used to own was much mellower. I feel that was a combination of the vintage HB1 pickups and the all-'hog guitar.
