That's the only explanation for this 1974 advert.

Not as high as the person who thought an integrated 8x12 head/cabinet was a good idea.

Are you referring to players who are vertically challenged or to people who have to haul their own gear and so consider weight as a factor when buying an amp, and not just the sonic things like tone and volume? :)

As a not particularly tall person myself, I would not do the former.

It's not even (just?) the weight (assuming it's close to a Marshall stack, it's in excess of 200 lbs), it's just the sheer awkward size of it all. It looks maybe seven feet tall, with at least half of that weight in the upper four feet. Yeah, it's got 2" casters on it, but that's not going to help you with stairs or even a rough parking lot. The Who's roadies legendarily got bent when they had to move Pete Townshend's 8x12 prototype Marshall cabinets. Now imagine embedding a Superlead head into the middle of it.

So Pete says to a reluctant Jim "Just fking build it" and later has to saw them in half because one got loose and nearly crushed someone, and that is without a superlead head in the middle, wtfudge were these guys thinking? ;[]

It's not just the ad copiers in lysergic acid here, looks like the madness came down from on high.
