and the guy never answered the door, some people I tell ya! It was a craigslist deal and the guy lives a good 45miles out of the twin cities, luckily I was heading up that way for work, because if i would have made a separate trip I would have been real pissed. He ended up calling and saying that he overslept, it happens, but still annoying. Anyway, he ended up telling me that the guitar has been in his closet without a case since about 1995, and he only took it out a few times since. I know it's not good for a guitar, but can it pose any extra problems that I should look out for? I really want a sunburst S-300D, but not if it's a crapper. Can you guys spot any problems, other than the non-original knobs, nut, and strap buttons? Here's some pics he sent me:

Hi GS; the nut ... graphite? I think an acoustic guitar left strung up in a closet and not in a case would be at more risk than a solid body. Good luck.

Needs to be cleaned and the TRC fixed. Nut isn't original. Knobs have got to go. :)

So long as the neck is straight, and the price is right, I'd buy it. Polish those frets and you'll love it.

I had a problem on my S300AD back in the 80s where the pickups started to squeal, but that's an easy fix.

Looks like it'll clean up nicely, 'shaman. I'm with default, it might be "trigger pulling time."

Yeah, honestly, it looks like a pretty darned clean guitar, besides being totally filthy, lol. Seriously, though, I don't see much in the way of dents, dings, chips, etc., so with an afternoon of polishing, you should have a pretty clean looking guitar.

I'd say, if you want that model and this one is in proper mechanical condition once you've got it in hand, go for it!

Yeah you guys are probably right. At the time I posted this I was a little fired up from the guy being a no show when I knocked on the door, it was a big disappointment. I was super excited to check out the guitar all day at work, and then buzz kill. I'll check it out for sure, hopefully after a good cleaning it'll be ready for a new life of rockin'!

Went to see it today, and left with my money. It was in worse condition than it looks, and in my opinion it needed a re-fret, which is not something i was looking to do. I'll just keep on lookin!

Drat! Oh well. Better to wait it out and find a better one. Hey, there's a burst S300-D or maybe -AD on Ebay right now. I think it went up yesterday. Have a look.

Smart move. If experience tells me anything, it tells me that there's always another one to be had at some point.
