After it sat at the music store so long, it burnt through the finish on the pegs. So, the serial number is D.D401240.
That puts it around 1993?
I had it set up by Harold Golden (http://www.goldenviolins.com/) and it plays stunningly well. So, if you need a guy in the Philly/Montco area, I can't recommend him highly enough.

Congrats Steve. Post pictures! I've always wanted a D40, and I'm kinda hoping that Scratch's F40 (due here tomorrow) will quell that a bit. I'm always looking though! I'd buy this one in a minute if I had any GAS money left, especially after the New Hartford tour. That's as cheap as you'll get a NH D40, and it's been re-listed as it didn't attract any bids the first time round.

Dang,
That's a sweet D40, Sandy and you have me a gassin... I'd like to add a CT-built to the closet, but it's retirement or guitar and in this case, retirement wins!!!

Thanks Sandy! I've had this for a couple of years now and thought it was a good playing guitar - until I went to Connecticut. Monday night, I played it for 2 and 1/2 hours with only minor cramping on oldish strings. What a great hobby!

To be honest, if this one had showed up first I probably would have bought it instead of yours. I really wish someone here would buy this one!

Now just out of curiosity (and being that you own both, and they're both Tacomas), how do the D40 and F40 compare/contrast?

Hello Default,

The dot in between the two Ds is a little confusing but if the serial number is DD401240, then your D-40 is from 2001.

Sincerely,

The F-40 is much more comfortable and I love the Folk size, but as a hogback, I like the boomier Dread. My CV-1 is also folk sized (based on the F-40 body but with cutaway) so I get the comfortable size and because it is rosewood, it is louder. If I didn't already have an F body guitar, the decision of which hog to let go would have been much more difficult. I'm smaller in stature and the only jumbo body I've ever felt comfortable with is the JF-30 twelve. It just flat rings...

Thanks Hans! Life would be a LOT more confusing around here without you! Hard to believe that this guitar hung on the wall for that long without someone taking her home.

I like jumbos a lot, particularly my F50R. It's just like the one I played years ago, and has aged exceptionally well. Pigpen is still a bit tight, but is well sorted now and will only improve. Just needs to be played more. I do prefer dreads generally too; I love my Gibson SWD and miss my D50 immensely, but hope it will be back from Nashville soon. There will be a D40 around here one of these days.

I do want an OM size guitar though, and I agonized a bit over sending the F20 to SouthernGuild because it was so nice. But it was also just too small for a big guy like me. Hopefully the 16" lower bout of the F40 should be more suitable. I like the Larrivee (and Collings) offerings in this class a lot. The Larrivees are at least affordable!
