If you are using a Mac and have Safari and have seen weird Smiley issues, this is why:
The Smileys are using a single image and referencing an offset (called Sprites). If you zoom in (command-+) with the mac, Safari seems to break this (Tested on Safari 12.0.2 on Mojave). This is what it looks like:
Normal:
Zoomed in once:
Zoomed in twice:
Zoomed in three times:
Zoomed in three times is actually 200% which is showing the actual size of the smileys (44x44 vs. 22x22 in the original).
Most of you probably won't care, but this has been driving me nuts since day one and I needed to tell someone that I figured it out.
