I has been having problems with my web and forum host server for quite awhile. Security was never a problem however. But I kept getting emails of script errors. I couldn't upload pictures to the control panel and even though I could somehow work around the problems it took an inordinate amount of time.

Now, I'm not a pute geek. I don't understand much computer jargon and I felt I wasn't getting the tech help service I was expecting from my host. I felt the problem was with them and not with my computer as I tried every solution they could come up with. And then out of the blue they told me to switch from IE to Mozilla Firefox. Lo and behold the problems went away. When I use FF upgrading my motorcycle forum and our personal web site was a breeze. I don't know the techs of it all, i.e. why IE interferes with so much, but a lot of stuff runs smoother using FF. I was just curious if LTG's problems may have been associated with IE. That's all. Have a great day everyone. It's raining here.

Peace

doc,

I use IE and have been for LTG for years. The LTG software was pretty old and didn't use any recent browser features. I'm not sure about the troubles you were running into before, but I doubt it had anything to do with IE.

That said, FireFox should work well too. I user FF at work and I have no trouble there either.

FYI, your terminology is a little off. The "forum host server" is a computer on the internet that actually runs the forum software and provides the bulletin board service to internet users that connect to it. Don maintains that. There is a provider that Don pays to provide the hardware and internet connection that are needed. The brief summary of what's just happened is that he is running new software now. What's coming is a move from from the current provider to a new one.

You, as an internet user, have a spigot to the internet too, and that's usually provided by your cable or phone company. That's generally known as an ISP (internet service provider), and that depends on where you live and how you connect.

Anyway, best wishes. PM me if you need some help; we have plenty of geeks around here who know the ins/outs. :)

Uh yeah, something like that. I use Hostgator for my web hosting. In the hosting package it provides the means (control panel) by which I create and manage our web site, which is constantly being upgraded, repaired, etc. It's about our travels, and although a very simple site, there is so much more I could do if I understood everything the control panel offers. But then again my goal is simplicity so I'm not really after much more.

Besides the problems I had working on my website, providing links, pics, etc. I could also NOT view the training videos provided by Hostgator.
Here's what hostgator tech said, "It would appear that the Web browser that you are using may not support
Flash based on the fact that you are unable to view these videos. All of the video tutorials which we have available are all run through Youtube which is the most common flash and HTML5 based video player. This may potentially
correlate to your existing issues which could use a Flash based editor which leads me to believe that the issue could potentially lie in your We Browser. IE is not fully HTML5 compliant".

Now, despite this response I have always been able to view Youtube vids using IE. Positive to their response, going to FF gained me access to their training vids. Crazy stuff, eh? But this is a guitar forum so I'll cut it off here. I just got curious as to what happened to LTG and if our problems may have been related. Thanks

Peace

Hey Doc, no our security issues had nothing at all to due with a specific web browser. I did web administration for a few years for an online store & you're right, there were always script errors & display issues specifically related to how IE read the code. I've use Firefox for years without issue, but I always had to check site changes in several other browsers to make sure they all displayed correctly. Not a fan of IE, & now that Google Chrome has connected with IE, they'll either make better, or screw themselves up in the process.

Our "Information Technology" manager at work keeps a voodoo doll of Bill Gates in his office.
Seriously.
After they recently "upgraded" my version of Windows I know why.

I'm no computer expert nor do I work with them...that said...went thru an issue where I could no longer view youtube vids nor even get street view on google maps...and was getting lots of error messages I, too, did not understand.

Realizing that that this had occurred immediately following a Flash update...checked their forums, not getting significant help, but getting an earful while learning A LOT of people had problems with Flash and other Adobe product 'updates'..the end user IS the tester...there were some setting changes in IE that I made but still not working...after 6 WEEKS...learned from another non Adobe forum that someone had solved the 'mystery'...while the fault WAS Adobe's...the problem was that Adobe and the AVG Free toolbar did not play nice together...AVG confirmed that you could disable the toolbar without disturbing the safety functions of AVG...Bingo...youtube and google street were back in action. And with AVG's updates, the toolbar is now functional as well.

I've disabled auto updates for Adobe products...they alert me...and I ignore them...as long as the stuff works...

So, Doc, what I'm suggesting is that you may also be having issues with Adobe Flash, not necessarily the same one I had...check their forums and microsoft's help forums as well...you may get an answer.

Good Luck.

I had those problems as well and you are correct. You get a google tool bar, IE tool bar, adobe tool bar, AVG tool bar, bing tool bar, on and on and on. I realized the conflict right away. All's good now. Thanks for the input.

Peace
